SKILLS LAB 2026
CONFIDENCE • MOVEMENT • FOUNDATIONS • PROGRESSION
SKILLS LAB IS VOLCANIC ROCK GYM’S WEEKLY CLIMBING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR ATHLETES WHO ARE BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND DEVELOPING THEIR SKILLS ON THE WALL. THIS PROGRAM IS IDEAL FOR CLIMBERS WITH LITTLE TO MODERATE EXPERIENCE WHO ARE CURIOUS ABOUT TEAM BUT NOT YET READY FOR ADVANCED TRAINING.
EACH 90-MINUTE SESSION IS STRUCTURED TO INTRODUCE AND REINFORCE FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT SKILLS, INCLUDING FOOTWORK, BALANCE, AND BODY POSITIONING. ATHLETES ARE GUIDED THROUGH DRILLS, PRACTICE CLIMBS, AND SUPERVISED PROJECTING THAT HELP THEM UNDERSTAND HOW TO MOVE EFFICIENTLY AND WITH CONTROL.
WE INCORPORATE INTRODUCTORY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING IN A WAY THAT IS APPROPRIATE, ACCESSIBLE, AND SUPPORTIVE OF LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT. THE FOCUS IS ON BUILDING STRONG HABITS, NOT INTENSITY OR PERFORMANCE PRESSURE.
WE INTENTIONALLY LIMIT EACH SESSION TO JUST EIGHT ATHLETES TO ENSURE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION, SAFE PROGRESSION, AND A POSITIVE, CONFIDENCE-BUILDING ENVIRONMENT.
WHETHER YOUR ATHLETE IS NEW TO CLIMBING OR LOOKING TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP, SKILLS LAB PROVIDES A STRUCTURED, SUPPORTIVE SPACE TO DEVELOP SKILLS, BUILD CONFIDENCE, AND PREPARE FOR FUTURE TRAINING.

YES. MANY ATHLETES CHOOSE TO ENROLL IN BOTH 4-WEEK SESSIONS FOR A FULL 8-WEEK SUMMER EXPERIENCE.
EACH SESSION BUILDS ON THE LAST, ALLOWING ATHLETES TO DEVELOP SKILLS, BUILD CONFIDENCE, AND SEE MEANINGFUL PROGRESS OVER TIME.

EACH SESSION FOLLOWS A CONSISTENT STRUCTURE SO ATHLETES BUILD ROUTINE, CONFIDENCE, AND FAMILIARITY OVER TIME.
3:30–3:35 PM — CHECK-IN & GOAL SETTING
ATHLETES CHECK IN, SHARE HOW THEY’RE FEELING, AND SET A SIMPLE GOAL FOR THE DAY. THIS HELPS BUILD AWARENESS AND OWNERSHIP FROM THE START.
3:35–3:45 PM — WARM-UP
A GUIDED WARM-UP TO PREPARE THE BODY AND MIND FOR CLIMBING.
INCLUDES LIGHT MOVEMENT, MOBILITY, AND EASY CLIMBING FOCUSED ON BALANCE AND CONTROL.
3:45–3:50 PM — SKILL INTRO
COACHES INTRODUCE THE FOCUS OF THE DAY (EX: FOOTWORK, BALANCE, OR BODY POSITIONING) IN A SIMPLE, EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND WAY.
3:50–4:15 PM — SKILL PRACTICE BLOCK
ATHLETES WORK THROUGH DRILLS AND GUIDED CLIMBS DESIGNED TO REINFORCE THE SKILL OF THE DAY.

4:15–4:25 PM — CONFIDENCE CHALLENGE
A SHORT, STRUCTURED CHALLENGE THAT ENCOURAGES ATHLETES TO APPLY WHAT THEY’VE LEARNED IN A FUN AND ACHIEVABLE WAY.
4:25–4:40 PM — INTRO STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
AGE-APPROPRIATE STRENGTH WORK FOCUSED ON CORE, STABILITY, AND BODY AWARENESS.
THIS BUILDS A FOUNDATION FOR SAFE AND EFFECTIVE CLIMBING.
4:40–4:55 PM — GUIDED PROJECT TIME
ATHLETES CHOOSE A CLIMB TO WORK ON WITH COACH SUPPORT.
THEY LEARN HOW TO TRY MOVES, REST, AND IMPROVE WITH EACH ATTEMPT.
4:55–5:00 PM — WRAP UP
ATHLETES JOURNAL THOUGHTS FROM THEIR SESSION AND REINFORCE WHAT THEY LEARNED.
THIS STRUCTURE ALLOWS ATHLETES TO BUILD SKILLS IN A CONSISTENT, SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT WHILE KEEPING SESSIONS ENGAGING AND FUN.
