CLIMB LAB 2026
STRENGTH • STRATEGY • PROGRESSION • PERFORMANCE
CLIMB LAB IS VOLCANIC ROCK GYM’S SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR ATHLETES AGES 8–17 WHO ARE READY FOR STRUCTURED PRACTICE, SKILL DEVELOPMENT, AND MEANINGFUL PROGRESS ON THE WALL.
THIS PROGRAM REPLACES OUR REGULAR YOUTH TEAM SEASON DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.
EACH TWO-HOUR SESSION IS INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED TO BALANCE CLIMBING, STRENGTH TRAINING, AND TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT. ATHLETES PARTICIPATE IN GUIDED DRILLS, MOVEMENT LABS, AND PROJECT-BASED CLIMBING THAT IMPROVE EFFICIENCY, BODY CONTROL, AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY. WE INCORPORATE STRUCTURED TRAINING ELEMENTS THAT HELP ATHLETES UNDERSTAND HOW TO APPROACH CLIMBING WITH PURPOSE AND INTENTION.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM, ATHLETES BUILD BOTH PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF CLIMBING - INCLUDING HOW TO WORK THROUGH DIFFICULT MOVES, MANAGE ATTEMPTS, AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS IN REAL TIME. THIS APPROACH HELPS THEM DEVELOP CONFIDENCE, RESILIENCE, AND CONSISTENCY ON THE WALL.
WE INTENTIONALLY LIMIT EACH TRAINING POD TO TEN ATHLETES TO ENSURE STRONG COACH-TO-ATHLETE RATIOS, INDIVIDUALIZED FEEDBACK, AND A FOCUSED TRAINING ENVIRONMENT.
WHETHER YOUR ATHLETE IS PREPARING FOR TEAM, RETURNING FROM THE SEASON, OR LOOKING TO TAKE THEIR CLIMBING TO THE NEXT LEVEL, CLIMB LAB PROVIDES A STRUCTURED, SUPPORTIVE SPACE TO TRAIN HARD, LEARN MORE, AND CONTINUE PROGRESSING THROUGH THE SUMMER.

SCHEDULE: TUESDAY & THURSDAY
TIME: 3:00–5:00 PM OR 4:00–6:00 PM
COST: $350 PER 4-WEEK SESSION (INCLUDES MEMBERSHIP)
CAPACITY: 10 ATHLETES PER POD
ATHLETES SELECT ONE POD AND ATTEND THAT TIME FOR THE FULL 4-WEEK BLOCK.

YES. MANY ATHLETES CHOOSE TO ENROLL IN BOTH 4-WEEK SESSIONS FOR A FULL 8-WEEK SUMMER EXPERIENCE.
EACH SESSION BUILDS ON THE LAST, ALLOWING ATHLETES TO DEVELOP SKILLS, BUILD CONFIDENCE, AND SEE MEANINGFUL PROGRESS OVER TIME.

0:05–0:20 — WARM-UP & MOVEMENT PREP
GUIDED WARM-UP WITH A FOCUS ON BODY POSITIONING, GRIP AWARENESS, AND CONTROLLED MOVEMENT.
0:20–0:40 — EXPERIMENT BLOCK
ATHLETES CLIMB THE SAME PROBLEM MULTIPLE WAYS:
• STATIC (CONTROLLED, SLOW MOVEMENT)
• DYNAMIC (MORE MOMENTUM-BASED)
• CREATIVE (ATHLETE-CHOSEN APPROACH)
AFTERWARD, ATHLETES DISCUSS:
• WHICH FELT MOST EFFICIENT
• WHICH USED THE LEAST ENERGY
• HOW MOVEMENT STYLE CHANGED THE CLIMB
0:40–0:50 — GROUP DISCUSSION
COACHES GUIDE A SHORT CONVERSATION TO HELP ATHLETES CONNECT MOVEMENT CHOICES TO PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES.
0:50–1:10 — GUIDED PROJECTING
ATHLETES APPLY WHAT THEY LEARNED TO A HARDER CLIMB, FOCUSING ON CONTROL, EFFICIENCY, AND MOVEMENT CHOICE.
1:10–1:25 — CONDITIONING CHALLENGE LADDER
ATHLETES RETEST ONE METRIC (EX: HOLLOW HOLD OR PULL-UPS).
RESULTS ARE TRACKED AND UPDATED ON THE TEAM BOARD TO SHOW PROGRESS OVER TIME.
1:25–1:50 — DESIGN LAB
ATHLETES CREATE A CLIMB THAT REQUIRES A SPECIFIC MOVEMENT (EX: FLAGGING OR BALANCE).
1:50–2:00 — REFLECTION & WRAP-UP
ATHLETES JOURNAL WHAT THEY LEARNED AND HOW THEY CAN APPLY IT IN FUTURE SESSIONS.
THIS SESSION BUILDS ATHLETES WHO CAN ADAPT, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, AND CLIMB WITH INTENTION UNDER FATIGUE.
